How Does Calcium Strengthen Your Bones?

by internationalmedicalaid

Last Updated June 1, 2021

Calcium is a mineral that many of us take for granted. It is present in many foods and most dairy products as well. We get calcium from many different sources, including milk, cheese, orange juice, vegetables, fish, and fruit. Some of the calcium that we ingest comes from fortified dairy products. However, calcium is not just found in dairy products – many other foods are rich in calcium as well.

Why Do We Need Calcium in Our Diets?

There are several reasons to ensure that you are getting enough calcium in your diet daily. One of the most important benefits of consuming calcium is bone health. Our bones are made up of calcium and are responsible for maintaining our skeletal structure and that of our tendons and ligaments. If we don’t get enough calcium in our diets, our bones become weak and brittle, and we may suffer a variety of painful diseases, such as osteoporosis.

Reduce the Risk of Cancer

In addition to strengthening your bones, calcium can also help to prevent certain cancers, such as colon cancer, from developing. There are several different benefits to consuming calcium tablets. If you are a woman, you can also benefit by reducing your risk of breast cancer. If you are trying to lose weight, calcium can also help you shed pounds. However, calcium should only be consumed in the appropriate forms with the proper amounts.

Strengthen Your Bone

Although calcium is commonly found in dairy products, you can obtain the necessary nutrients from various other foods, which are rich in calcium. You can obtain calcium through the consumption of leafy green vegetables and animal calcium.

  • Which are not only nutritious, but it is also great for strengthening your bones! Fish is also a great source of calcium. Make sure that you choose high-protein fish since the more protein they contain, the better.
  • There are a variety of different calcium-based vitamins on the market today. The recommended amount of these foods consumed daily is 1 tablespoon for every 1000 calories you consume. If you are lactose intolerant or do not like to eat dairy products, you will need to take a calcium supplement to meet your calcium needs.
  • Some of the calcium supplements that you can purchase over the counter contain 500mg of calcium for every one teaspoon of vitamin C that you consume. This vitamin has been proven to be very effective for strengthening your bones.

Keep your Nails and Hair Healthy:

It is important to keep in mind that calcium is not only good for your body but is also essential for keeping your nails and hair healthy as well. If you choose to cut meat out of your diets, such as kidney, liver, and egg white, you will need to substitute those foods with calcium-fortified dried beans and cereals. You should drink at least eight glasses of water a day to keep yourself hydrated and flush out your body’s wastes.
