Are Hunger Suppressants Really Effective for Curbing Appetite?

by internationalmedicalaid

Last Updated March 23, 2022

Many people struggle with the problem of obesity which is commonly attributed to high-calorie intake and excessive fat deposits in the body. While it is normal for every person to feel hungry, other individuals often experience an endless craving for food even after eating something. If you belong to this category, the chances of gaining weight will be high. However, appetite suppressants can help if you get the ideal ones. Keep on reading to learn more about the effectiveness of hunger suppressants in curbing appetite.

Appetite Suppressants Trick Your Mind

Appetite suppressants are drugs designed to suppress hunger or reduce the craving for food that will help you lose weight. Cravings and hunger pains often make it challenging for individuals who want to maintain a good diet to achieve and maintain weight loss. Some prescription appetite suppressant pills work on the brain’s dopamine system. They promote weight loss by turning off all the positive feelings associated with food cravings.

Diet pills reduce your desire to eat which will help you cut your calorie intake. These supplements can be helpful for individuals with excess weight. You can also try over-the-counter pills designed to suppress appetite. However, weight loss pills work well with a quality diet.

Choose the Best Suppressant

Ideally, weight loss is a simple exercise that involves the consumption of fewer calories than what the body can use. This in turn will force your body to start burning the fat it has stored. However, the reality is trickier since many people often experience food cravings which will adversely impact the effort put into maintaining a diet. Your cravings become stronger the longer you stay on a diet. This condition can be addressed by using appetite suppressants. To control your appetite, you can try to find a good hunger suppressant at SFGate.com which will help you lower food cravings. These supplements also play a crucial role in burning stored fat and boosting metabolism.

When the rate of metabolism is high, it means the body will use more energy. This will lead to weight loss. There remains a challenge in finding the best supplements since most products available on the market often make unrealistic claims about their effectiveness.

Type of Ingredients

Hunger suppressants consist of various ingredients which play crucial roles in suppressing appetite. For instance, glucomannan is a good appetite suppressant that tricks the brain into a feeling of fullness. The compound consists of dietary fiber that fills your stomach although it does not have any nutritional value. It causes you to eat very little while at the same time making you feel like you have eaten a full meal.

Make sure you take a large dose of glucomannan with a meal for faster results. The fiber swells quickly when it is mixed with water, and it will fill up your stomach without adding any calories. However, the compound can provide health benefits like creating a defensive film on the lining of the intestines to help lower cholesterol levels.

Effectiveness of Appetite Suppressants

Hunger supplements alone cannot give you total satisfaction if your goal is to lose weight. However, individuals who combine appetite suppressants with other lifestyle changes like exercise, a nutritious diet, and quality rest may lose between  3% and 9% of their weight within 12 months. The change is not very big and worth celebrating since this might not suit your expectations.

Most of the FDA-approved hunger suppressants show that they can only contribute about 5% of the bodyweight lost by the user every year. If you are fighting a condition like obesity, you should not overly rely on these supplements. Indeed, they suppress appetite, but this does not translate into overnight weight loss. It is vital to understand that these drugs need support to be effective.

Other Alternatives

Weight loss medication like hunger suppressants is not for everyone, even though it can curb appetite.  If you aim to lose weight, you should talk to your doctor before you try this solution. Your physician can recommend other alternatives like managing any emotional issues. If lifestyle changes don’t work on top of taking appetite suppressants, you might develop a weight-related issue like high blood pressure. Medication might be the best solution to consider.

Hunger suppressants play a crucial role in suppressing appetite by tricking your brain into thinking that your stomach is full. You will no longer feel the same craving for food, and this can help you reduce your calorie intake. Finding the best appetite suppressant can be challenging since there are many products available on the market. Another thing worth considering is that hunger suppressants cannot perform a miracle when it comes to losing weight. You should use them together with other solutions like maintaining a good diet, exercising regularly and getting quality sleep.
