Victoria Falls is one of the single most impressive waterfalls on the planet today and among the most spectacular sights in Africa. This gorgeous waterfall located between Zambia and Zimbabwe is classified as the largest waterfall in the world due to its combined width and height, creating the largest sheet of falling water in the world. You can experience an up-close view of the Falls by walking or driving along the various trails nearby.
For scale, this waterfall is approximately twice the height of Niagra Falls! Composed of two streams that fall into separate parallel streams, making up the striking force of the Victoria Falls waterfall, the Devil’s Cataract and Eastern Cataract are majestic in their own right.
Adjacent to Livingstone Island, near the Zambian side of the waterfall, lies the infamous Armchair, or Devils Pool, naturally created by a rock barrier when the water flows at a certain level. As the water is forced to cascade away from the falls at this point, more adventurous swimmers may find the courage to swim in this area, although they are warned to be aware of the surrounding area.
Two national parks are located at the falls, Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and Victoria Falls National Park. These parks work to both keep animals safe as well as keep them confined. Visitors can once again test their bravery in the parks, which offer the courageous Lion Walks – opportunities to walk amongst lions themselves! The parks and falls themselves are sure to test any visitor’s bravery.
