We all know that a meal is not complete without something sweet to round it up. Moreover, we are constantly surrounded by tempting sweets and snacks. If you take into consideration the number of calories you consume on a daily basis, you will be more aware of why you have that receding waistline. However, there is no reason for not enjoying all the good food and deserts we got a chance to taste, only if we took some care about incorporating some balance innit. So, we have decided to show you some healthier ways of making your desserts. Here are a couple of useful tips you can apply to your dessert recipes.

Bad Sweet Choices Can Make You “Sugar High”

Eating the wrong types of sweets can make you “sugar high”. This state is known not to last for too long and is typically followed by a mood crash-sudden boost of the stress hormones that can last for up to five hours. A good way to prevent the state of “sugar high” is to skip refined sugar desserts and choose treats rich in complex carbohydrates. A good alternative to cookies is brown sugar pudding, dark chocolate granola instead of the snack bar, or even frozen melon sorbet instead of standard ice cream. You will notice that desserts like these, rich in complex carbohydrates, will give you more energy and will put you in a positive mood. If you are not really in the mood for preparing desserts, you can always grab a dark chocolate bar. This alternative is also known as a feel-good dessert. In addition, the health benefits of smoothies are very well-known. Furthermore, smoothies are a supreme and inexpensive way to make the best use of the fresh greens you’ve got in the kitchen. Smoothies are loaded with fiber and, depending on the ingredients you use, there can be super loads of other nutrients such as proteins and complex carbohydrates.

Heart and Brain Health

Since we have already mentioned dark chocolate as a dessert that may simply satisfy your sugar needs, there are also some less-known facts about this dessert. There are also some studies suggesting that dark chocolate can help you reduce inflammation and enhance some of the properties of your immune system due to the presence of flavonoids in cocoa. A study conducted by Harvard showed that eating small portions of dark chocolate has the tendency to lower blood pressure. On the other hand, another study has shown that it reduces the risk of stroke for people who incorporate this dessert into their diet. It can be concluded that cocoa indeed makes a huge difference and does wonders for heart health. Furthermore, some nutritionists suggest that there is a juice for every disease that can occur in our body. For instance, beetroot juice is known to solve problems with blood. Another great alternative is green smoothies, which are rich in leafy veggies such as spinach, and it is a very well-known fact that spinach has high iron content.

Desserts Can Help You Control Your Weight

There are many reasons why we cannot control our weight gain, and binge eating, as well as constant cravings, are usually the reasons to blame. By controlling these two, you will see instant results in your weight-loss journey. Moderating your portions and indulging in your desserts will satisfy your sweet tooth in an effective way. This will bring more balance to your diet, and you will finally be able to eat your desserts while savoring every single bite. Smaller portions and mindful dessert eating will make you feel fuller. How so? Try slow eating. Take your time with every bite. This way, you will center your pleasure on food, feel full, and be fully satisfied.

How About Boosting Your Brain?

By choosing low-sugar desserts rich in ingredients that are known to promote mental health, such as berries, nuts, and dark chocolate, combined with spices such as nutmeg, ginger, and cinnamon, you will not only satisfy your cravings and make your sweet tooth happy but will also give your body enough tools to promote mental acuity. With the proper ingredients, you will be able to completely change your dessert game, and yes, you can do it with brownies too.

Enjoying your food is the price you must not pay for losing a couple of pounds. You can always reduce your body weight just by making simple changes to your meal plan. This way, you will see how great it is to enjoy and savor every single bite without feeling guilty about eating sweets.
