About Our Involvement

IMA and the UC Davis Pre-Health Conference

The Pre-Health Conference at UC Davis is a one-day event each fall for community college, university and post-baccalaureate students and pre-health advisers. It combines a morning Pre-Health Fair with more than 200 exhibitors and afternoon workshops.

International Medical Aid has exhibited at the conference every year since 2023, and the official conference programs for 2024, 2025 and 2026 list a workshop led by IMA. We take part to answer students’ questions about international healthcare internships and to talk about what responsible clinical learning abroad looks like.

IMA takes part as an exhibitor and workshop presenter. The conference is organized by UC Davis; IMA internships are run independently by International Medical Aid.

What We Discuss

Questions Pre-Health Students Bring to the Conference

Students at the fair and workshops ask practical questions. What will I be allowed to do? Who supervises me? How is the internship arranged with the hospital? How do I describe the experience honestly in an application?

Our answer starts with the student’s role. On IMA’s pre-med internships, students shadow physicians, join educational sessions and take part in supervised activities that fit their training. They do not diagnose patients, prescribe treatment or perform procedures. Learning in a clinical setting also means protecting patient privacy, respecting the local healthcare team and recognizing that a short placement cannot explain everything about a health system.

Conference attendance does not guarantee program placement, recommendation letters, academic credit or admission to a health professions school. Students who want academic credit should ask their own institution.
